Speculation is mounting that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been killed following a US airstrike in Iraq.
The Iraqi officials have confirmed that the al-Baghdadi was among the ISIS leaders when they were targeted in the airstrike and has been wounded.
The officials further added that the terror chief’s right hand man, Auf Abdulrahman Elefery, had died during the aerial assault.
“He and Baghdadi were rarely separate. It’s for this reason that it could be possible that Baghdadi was with him at the time of the attack,” an Iraqi security official, Hisham al-Hashimi, told the Daily Telegraph.
An official in the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Iraq also confirmed that al-Baghdadi was wounded following the airstrike.
The official did not confirm if al-Baghdadi was killed following the raid but added that was hit during a meeting Saturday with militants in the town of Qaim in Iraq’s western Anbar province.
However, the extent of the injuries al-Baghdadi sustained following the raid is not known yet.
